Ok, so I may very well be one of the slowest writers ever, but I am pleased to finally announce that I have completed a draft chapter for what I hope will become my next book: The Nature of Code. Based ...

Learning Processing The book isn't more or less usable than the Processing web site. It's just different. This book is meant to be a step-by-step tutorial for the absolute beginner. The Processing web site is an amazing resource for beginner, intermediate, and advanced programmers with examples, reference pages, tutorials and a forum.

Learning Processing
I wrote a little bit about my goals for the book here:
http://www.shiffman.net/2008/07/31/book- release-learning-processing/
The book is really meant for programming beginners, with half the book dedicated to step by step tutorials of the fundamentals — variables, conditionals, loops, arrays, functions, objects. So if you... already have a programming background and have read through the Reas/Fry or Greenberg books, it may not be for you, though the second half does have some more advanced tutorials (3d, image processing, computer vision, networking, xml, etc.) Again though, everything is geared towards the beginner, someone who has never written any code before.
There’s a site for the book too where you can download all the sample code, a couple sample chapters, supplemental tutorials, etc. I’m still working on the site, hope to have all the content there in the next week or two. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any other questions!

I will check with the publisher. At the very least all the code examples from the book are going on the web site (http://www.learningprocessing.com) in the next week or so. . .

Learning Processing If anyone would like to do a Spanish translation, feel free to drop me a line!

The book (or at least a proof of the book) will be available at Siggraph: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=19837941364
